Offerings
Well, the weather is getting worse and worse. It really worries me. Not because the end of the world or whatsoever. It's because, the nature itself is decaying! It's sad to know the extinction of animals around the world. And it is definitely sad to see those lumberman or construction guys demolishing the beauty of nature. I was amazed when i went to Balik Pulau for the first time. I incline more towards environmentalist side and therefore, i was really glad that in the Island full of cars and pollution, there's actually a beautiful part of it. As they say, every bad stuff has a covered good part of it. Well, i dont really know how to put it in a nicer phrase therefore, this will do.
Whenever someone actually said, "WOW! HOT WEATHER!". I so wish to ask them, "Who made the weather hot and hotter?" And if they say us, human, then i wish to ask them, "Since you know, then, do you at least help or try to do something to prevent further damaging?"
Sigh...on the months of Taoist gods' birthday and stuff, there will be a lot of joss sticks, paper money etc being burnt. Well, i am just wondering, if by burning and offering those luxurious foods and burning tons of paper money, will the gods actually recieve it and even that, will the gods actually goes "Ah! You gave 5 billion worth of paper money this year while he gave me only 3 billion. So, will grant you better wealth, health, etc." Do they? I doubt so...If the gods were really to show 'favourism'. Then, all those wealthy people will be the ones who's gonna die at a very old age right?
This is one of the reason why i find offering those burnt stuff ridiculous. I joined Buddhist Society when i was in Secondary and what the preacher preached really made me realize those silly stuff they actually did. Other than that, if a real house were being burnt or something like that, then does that mean the owner of the house is offering the burnt house to the gods? Well, when you realize your house is going down caused by the fire, why not you seize the oppotunity and pray to the gods, "Oh gods, i offer my house to you...may you give me a newer home/ may you give me a lucky number so that the lottery strikes first tomorrow".
Last but not least, is the other realm under inflation or something? If not, why does those notes i saw actually has tons of zeros behind it? Like a paper = 5 billion or sometimes even more... And why only those printed ones can be considered as paper money? Why cant i just write 5 billion dollar worth of money and burn it? Does the printed ones being certified or something by like urm...a respective corporation or such? I dont think so.
As conclusion, in my opinion, they're just wasting money like those drug addicters and smokers who burn their money. Well, i know one word, FAITH, which actually made these kind of things happen. But then, did any of them actually try to track down who said burning papers and offering joss sticks is a must or rather, is good for those deceased or the gods? This is similar to the Mayan where they used to offer sacrifices of live humans to their gods. Why is there no more live sacrifices anymore? Is it cause the respective society or whatever stuff ban it? And if they do ban the rule and you're a worshipper, wont you protest like crazy and keep the tradition going on? Since it's a must right?
Well, people from the past came to realization that those live sacrificing are useless or rather, gruesome, therefore, those sacrificing stuff are obsolete. Yes, there still are worshippers who really do that secretly but what will we said about them? Crazy, right? One of the literature story in form 4, "The Rain God". What is the true moral of story in the end? Sacrifice live humans in order to cease the anger of the Rain God? No, right? After the two daughters who were being made as offering to the gods died, is there any rain? Or is it still drought? Ah people, please...stop polluting the Earth.
This conclude my piece of my mind towards those offerings. I believe in chants and mantras but not those offering stuff. Well, i do realise that if were to post this on any of those Taoist religion related websites, i will be flamed like hell. And if i were to tell this to my family, i will be scolded and slapped like hell. That's one thing im sure of.
